  1. underline key words in the questions to help you in your listening. 
  2. answer every question, there’s no point in leaving any questions blank. 
  3.  check your spelling as you will be penalised if you get it wrong.

IELTS Reading tips

  1. spelling is very important. When you learn new words make sure you know how to spell them. Go back and check the spelling of your answers. 
  2.  look at the picture and the title to give you a general idea of the topic, and then look at the questions. 
  3. don’t waste too much time on one question. If it’s too difficult for you, go on to the next question and come back if you have time

IELTS Speaking tips


  1. try to talk about what you know rather than general ideas.
  2.  practise speaking at length. Talk to yourself on a variety of topics. Record yourself and listen back to see if you sound interested. Practise stressing key words to sound more interested.
  3. it’s OK to ask the examiner to repeat the question
  4. watch the tense in the question. Is it past, present or future? Make a note of it.
  5. if you can’t remember a word in English, try to describe it.

  1. write the correct amount of words, not too few and not too many. 
  2.  the best way to improve your vocabulary is to do lots of reading
  3.  Timing is important. You’ve got 20 minutes for the first part and 40 minutes for the second part.
